Markham Centre
The Town of Markham, one of the fastest-growing municipalities in Canada, adopted “The Markham Centre Plan” in 1994. It established a framework for creating Markham’s new downtown, accommodating future growth and focusing on environmental sustainability. When complete in 2028 or beyond, Markham Centre will be a development of 25 million square feet of residential, commercial and institutional buildings; and be home to over 30,000 residents and 20,000 employees. District energy is forecast to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 50 per cent.
