East Markham

In continuing its strategy for accommodating growth in the municipality, the Town of  Markham is planning a 250 acre urban development surrounding the expanding  Markham Stouffville Hospital in East Markham. When complete, the East Markham development will consist of over 10 million square feet of residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.

The Town of Markham seized the opportunity to design and implement a second district energy system to serve the East Markham development. Considered the system's first phase, MDE will deliver district energy services to the Markham Stouffville Hospital, East Markham Community Centre and Library, and Cornell Fire Station, as well as several other neighbouring buildings.

Completion of the system's energy plant - the Bur Oak Energy Centre - and the launch of the district energy system is scheduled for early 2012.
