Markham District Energy Receives Markham Board of Trade Business Excellence Award
MARKHAM, ON – November 19, 2009 – Markham District Energy (MDE) took the stage to accept the Donald Cousens Conservation and Environmental Leadership Award at the Markham Board of Trade 2009 Business Excellence Awards gala. PowerStream Inc. sponsors this annual Markham Board of Trade award.
Nominated by the TD Bank, MDE’s President Bruce Ander and Board Chair & Deputy Mayor Jack Heath accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the Town of Markham, its Board of Directors and all MDE employees. Donald Cousens, former Mayor and an early project champion of the district energy project in the late 1990’s, was on hand to present MDE with the award named in his honour.
Giving credit to the solid support received from its shareholder, the Town of Markham, to the MDE Board and to the employees that operate the system, Ander stated, “Our employees are dedicated and operate the system as if it were their own.” MDE’s service record of producing critical heating and cooling energy for customers and green electricity for the local grid is impressive. Noting that heating energy has been flowing continuously, without any interruptions, for 9 years Ander added that “without this service record our ability to expand or start new systems would be challenging.”
